Jose Parra

Educational Advocate

Master's in Social Work & Bachelor's in Social Work

Jose Parra earned his Bachelor of Social Work in 2013 and Master of Social Work in 2016 from the University of Nevada, Reno’s School of Social Work.
During and after his undergraduate studies, he worked as an Outreach Specialist with the Washoe County Department of Juvenile Services, where he developed extensive knowledge of the juvenile justice system. Jose later served as a School Social Worker for the Washoe County School District, where he focused on trauma-informed practices, restorative justice, equitable policies, and advancing social justice in school communities.
He currently serves as a full-time lecturer and the BSW Program Director at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Social Work. Jose believes in building strong relationships with students and is committed to seeing each one of them be the best of version of themselves.
Jose loves spending time with his son. Jose enjoys playing basketball in his spare time and also serves as a youth basketball coach. If there is a sporting event in town, you might find him there!
