Nancy was born in Philadelphia and did all her education there. Philadelphia is also where she met and married her husband, Peter. After graduating, she followed her husband out west and pursued an academic career in Biomedical research. She had three children, two boys, and a girl, after which she decided to stay home and devote her time to raising children. They moved to Reno in 1999 for her husband's job and discovered that Reno is the best kept secret for places to live and raise a family. Her three children graduated from Reno public schools and UNR and pursued advanced degrees in medicine and engineering, a testament to the fact that her and her husband instilled in them the value of education and a preference for math, science, and medicine. As the children grew more independent, she began to volunteer in their middle school and high school tutoring at-risk youth. She worked for one year as a math support educator at O'Brian Middle school. She needed more flexibility in her schedule to care for her father, and so she began tutoring with the Foster Family Association, taking only a few students and tutoring in whatever subjects were needed. After this organization discontinued their tutoring program, she volunteered with the Northern Nevada International Association which helps refugees settle and succeed in the Reno/Sparks community. When she learned that Boosted Diplomas took over tutoring Foster youth, she jumped at the chance to get back into tutoring disadvantaged youth. It has been a wonderful fit ever since!
She love the outdoors, and Tahoe is her Heaven on Earth. Her hobbies are gardening, reading, hiking, swimming, and skiing. She tries to wake surf and surf, but she can't say she is very good at either. She loves to travel, the more adventurous, the better.
